Lecture 3.6 – Diversity In Innovation

Findings by the US Patent Office and leading researchers show that women, people of color and veterans are significantly underrepresented as US patent inventors. All of the data suggest that the U.S. has missed out on the valuable innovation from millions of these Under-Represented Inventors (URIs). Maintaining a technical and innovative edge is vital for success in the marketplace and for the economic and technological success of the country. For individual companies, more innovation can lead to increased market share, customer acquisition, employee retention and more. Increasing diversity in inventorship is a first step in reaching these goals, and the time for action is now.
